What is Biodiesel?

Definition:
Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources and is free of petroleum, sulfur and aromatics.  Biodiesel can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend.  It can be used in diesel engines with little or no modifications.  Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, and nontoxic. Isn't Biodiesel the same as vegetable oil?
No it is not the same!
Fuel-grade biodiesel must be produced to strict industry specifications in order to insure proper performance and is the only alternative fuel to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments.  Biodiesel, registered with the Environmental Protection Agency, is a legal motor fuel for sale and distribution.  Raw vegetable oil cannot meet biodiesel fuel specifications, it is not registered with the EPA, and it is not a legal motor fuel(1)Biodiesel ignites 10% faster than regular petrol and produces about 2% less harmful emissions.  Biodiesel is also a natural lubricant, and over time will significantly reduce engine wear.  Biodiesel costs from 89ยข to $1.20, compared to over $2 for diesel.(these figures can be found on EIA)
